Conway, S.C. Jamel Brown ran 54.05 less than a tenth of a second away from a personal best mark as he won the 400m hurdles on the final day of competition at the Coastal Carolina Invitational in Conway. The Citadel recorded nine top-10 finishes at the meet.
Brown's time of 54.05 was the best 400m hurdle time ran during the weekend. His personal best time is 53.97, ran at last year's Southern Conference Outdoor Championships. Brown also finished seventh in the 110m hurdles on the weekend, running 15.18.
In the 100m hurdles, Tasha Sanders finished sixth with a time of 15.41 in a busy weekend for the senior from Summerville, S.C. Sanders also finished 15th in the shot put with a throw of 38' 9”, 40th in the long jump with a mark of 15' 3.25” and 11th in the discus with a throw of 121' 9”.
The Bulldogs excelled in the distance races as well, led by Natalie Wolin's sixth place finish in the 5,000m run with a time of 19:08.50. Erin Ritter followed with time of 20:02.37 as she finished 19th.
In the 3,000m steeplechase, Sarah Strickland finished fifth with a time of 11:54.60 while Brendan Kight finished sixth on the men's side with a time of 9:49.49, less than a second away from placing his time in the school's top-10 charts.
In the 1,500m, Katheryn Gatewood finished 16th with a time of 4:53.18.
In the field events, Quintin Turner the two-time South Carolina High School State Champion last year finished 20th in the shot put with a throw of 44' 3.5” and 28th in the discus with a throw of 128' 1”.
In the triple jump, Justin Webb placed 13th with a mark of 42' 8.75”.
The Citadel returns to Conway next weekend when the Bulldogs compete in the three-day Shamrock Invitational hosted by Coastal Carolina.
