Charleston, S.C. The Southern Conference today named its six postgraduate scholarship recipients for the 2007-08 academic year. The six student-athletes will be honored for their accomplishments at the Southern Conference awards dinner in Hilton Head, S.C. on May 28, 2008.
The Citadel's James Eason is the 2008 recipient of the Dave Hart graduate scholarship presented by Seven Falls Golf and River Club, named in honor of former SoCon commissioner Dave Hart, Sr.
As a member of the Bulldogs' tennis team, Eason has earned Dean's List and Athletic Directors Honor Roll distinction every semester at The Citadel while being honored as a three-time ITA Scholar Athlete. The Christchurch, New Zealand native is a biology major with a 3.695 grade point average, and has recently volunteered in the trauma unit at the Medical University of South Carolina while also participating in the Win4Life Clinic, a program designed to teach the game of tennis to underprivileged children.
Eason has been named to the SoCon's all-conference tennis first team in each of his first three seasons of competition, earning the nod for doubles three times and for singles in 2006. Following graduation, Eason plans to pursue a career as a surgeon after completing medical school.
Other honorees include: Dorothy Hicks Graduate Scholarship recipient Dianna Thomas of Appalachian State, David Knight Graduate Scholarship recipient Page Bridges of Furman, Sony Graduate Scholarship recipient Brenna Burns of Davidson and Bob McCloskey Insurance Graduate Scholarship recipients Joe Watson of Furman and Lauren Bosshardt of Wofford.
