Charleston, S.C. The Citadel Bulldog tennis team defeated the College of Charleston for the first time since 1990, Wednesday afternoon at the Patriots Point Tennis Center, 4-3. This is the first ever Southern Conference victory for the Bulldogs over the Cougars since they entered the conference in 1998.
The Citadel struck first to claim the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. James Eason and Alberto Diaz defeated Jimmy Petit and Joe Nicolazzi, 8-4, at No. 2, while Martin King and Frederick Petrilli pulled out the win against Ross Moyer and Christopher Carlton, 8-1, at No. 3 doubles.
The Bulldogs continued on to win at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 singles to win the match, 4-3. Yufo Sutantio controlled No. 2 singles (6-0, 6-1), as Eason won No. 3 singles (6-2, 6-1) and Diaz wrapped up the win for the Bulldogs at No. 4 singles (6-4, 6-3).
The Citadel improves to 14-9 (4-3 SoCon) on the season, while College of Charleston slips to 6-14 (1-7 SoCon).
