Charleston, S.C. The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) has released the 2007-08 Division I All-Academic Wrestling Team rankings. The Citadel wrestling team broke into the top twenty, placing 19th overall.
The list is comprised of the top 30 teams ranked by the combined cumulative GPA of ten 10 grapplers that wrestled in the conference tournament, along with two others that may have competed for the team throughout the season.
More than half of the Bulldog wrestlers currently hold a 3.0 GPA or higher, which helped the Dogs to their impressive national ranking. The young grapplers have proved their spot both on the mat and in the classroom.
The Citadel was the highest placing team from the Southern Conference Tournament that was recognized. The Bulldogs took fourth as a team with six individual placers at the Mat Jam tournament back in March. Davidson was the only other SoCon program to be honored.
