Ronnie Hamilton Joins Bulldogs Staff

Charleston, S.C. Bulldogs Head Coach Ed Conroy announced the addition of Ronnie Hamilton to the men's basketball coaching staff. Hamilton will serve as an assistant coach of The Citadel for the 2008-09 season.

Hamilton joins the Bulldogs from Tarleton State University, where he spent three years as an assistant coach. In 2005-06, Hamilton helped the Texans reach their second straight Elite Eight and finish with a 27-7 record. The Texans finished with an 18-10 record during the 2006-07 season and recorded a 25-6 record last season.

“We are very excited to have Ronnie joining our staff,” said Conroy. “He is a bright young coach who is quickly establishing himself as a rising star in the coaching profession.”

Before his career at Tarleton, Hamilton served two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at the University of North Carolina-Pembroke. During his stint with the Braves, Hamilton was responsible for planning practices, leading on-floor coaching, heading the strength and conditioning program and handling film exchange. He also served as the recruiting coordinator.

“He has great recruiting ties throughout the Carolinas and in Texas,” said Conroy. “I am excited about him representing our institution and the basketball program. Ronnie is a super person and will be an outstanding role model and mentor for our young players.”

Prior to his collegiate coaching debut at UNC-Pembroke, Hamilton spent one year as an assistant football and track and field coach at Jack Britt High School in Fayetteville, N.C., where he also taught world history and world geography.

Hamilton is a native of Oxford, N.C. He attended Duke University, where he was a four-year scholarship football player. Hamilton started as a true freshman on the Blue Devils squad and served as captain during his senior season.

In 2002, he was ranked fourth in the nation for punt return average and received the 2001 Iron Duke Award. While at Duke, Hamilton received the Co-Outstanding Special Teams Player and the Outstanding Defensive Back awards, while also being awarded All-Atlantic Coast Conference Honorable Mention. In 1999, he was named the Most Improved Defensive Back.

Hamilton received a master's degree in physical education with a concentration in sports administration from UNC-Pembroke in June 2005. He graduated from Duke with a double major in political science and history. Upon his graduation in 2002, Hamilton was invited to camp with the New York Giants.
