Will Wilson ?07 Passes Away from Hit and Run

 

Columbia, S.C. Will Wilson '07, a former standout track and cross country runner for The Citadel, passed away Sunday night from a hit and run that occurred Thursday evening in Columbia. Wilson had just recently turned 24.

Wilson was riding his bicycle in Columbia when he was hit by a vehicle. The driver left the scene of the accident but turned himself into police hours later. Columbia Police Department spokesman Brick Lewis said the accident happened at around 6:50 p.m. at the intersection of Devine and King streets in the Shandon neighborhood of Columbia.

When he graduated in 2007, Wilson was in The Citadel record books multiple times, running the anchor leg of the second-fastest indoor distance medley relay team in school history. Wilson also holds the ninth-best 3,000m steeplechase performance in school history, running 9:47.32 at the Military Championships at VMI on March 31, 2007.

Wilson had been working in marketing and research at the Grubb & Ellis/Wilson Kibler real estate firm in Columbia; a company his father, Jeremy, co-founded.

An All-State runner from Cardinal Newman High School in Columbia, Wilson graduated from The Citadel with a degree in business administration in 2007.

The funeral will be held Wednesday at noon at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Columbia, located at 3512 Devine Street.
