Billy Linane joins the Bulldog wrestling staff this season as an assistant coach. Linane is a 2005 graduate of The Citadel, where he majored in Criminal Justice and was a four-time letter winner in the heavyweight division.
Linane was the 17th wrestler in school history to become a member of The Citadel Wrestling Wall of Fame. Among his accomplishments as a Bulldog were 92 career wins, a four-time Southern Conference tournament finalist, two-time conference champion, and two-time NCAA qualifier.
The Kissimme, Fla. Native graduated from Gateway High School. Linane was a two-time state placer; fourth Place as a junior and state champion as a senior. He was also named Junior Greco All-American, finishing with a record of 112-24.
After graduating from The Citadel, Linane served as an assistant wrestling coach at Hillcrest High School from 2006-2008. While coaching at Hillcrest during the 2006-07 season the team took second in the state dual tournament and they won the traditional state title. During the 2007-08 wrestling season the team took eighth in the traditional state tournament.
Currently Linane resides in Charleston, S.C. and serves as a corrections officer for The Charleston County Detention Center. He is expected to bring a wide base of experience and knowledge to the wrestling program this season.
