Starks Earns National Accolade for Performance Against Furman

Charleston, S.C. - The Citadel's redshirt freshman quarterback Miguel Starks was named to the College Sporting News National All-Stars list this week for his efforts this past Saturday against Furman.

In his first collegiate start, Miguel Starks (Atlanta, Ga.) was responsible for 327 yards and accounted for all five touchdowns in The Citadel's 38-28 win over Furman on Saturday at Johnson Hagood Stadium. He connected on 14-of-19 passes with no interceptions for 183 yards and one touchdown, while adding 144 yards on the ground with touchdown runs of 11, 5, 17 and 23 yards. Starks' four rushing touchdowns tied a school single-game scoring record, and he became the first Bulldog quarterback since Jack Douglas in 1992 to rush for four scores in a single game.

Starks was also named Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the 38-28 win over the Paladins. The Citadel has had five SoCon players of the week this season. Redshirt freshman defensive back Joseph Boateng earned SoCon Defensive Player of the Week for his impressive collegiate debut at No. 21 North Carolina and redshirt junior quarterback Bart Blanchard received Co-Offensive Player of the Week for his record-setting six touchdown performance against Presbyterian. Van Dyke Jones received Freshman Player of the Week honors with Starks for his 102-yard rushing performance last week against Furman as well as after recording 100-all purpose yards against Appalachian State on Oct. 3.

The Citadel (3-4 overall, 1-3 SoCon) hosts Samford on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 1 p.m at Johnson Hagood Stadium. For more information on Bulldog Football, visit the official website of The Citadel Athletics at www.CitadelSports.com.
