The Citadel Tennis Releases 2010 Schedule

Charleston, S.C. - The Citadel Tennis team and head coach Toby Simpson announced their 2010 spring schedule on Wednesday.

The Bulldogs will open the 2010 season on Jan. 28 against Big South member Coastal Carolina at home at the Earle Tennis Center in Charleston. The Cadets will then travel to Knoxville, Tenn. on Feb. 3, for the lone evening battle of the season to take on Southeastern Conference (SEC) opponent Tennessee at 6:30 p.m. The Citadel rounds out February traveling to Clemson, S.C. for competition against Gardner-Webb on the 20th, followed by action with Atlantic Coast Conference foe Clemson on the 21st for the fourth consecutive season in a row.

The Bulldogs take a break before opening play in March, the month with the longest stretch of action for The Citadel that includes a nine-match home stand. On March 8, Case Western Reserve starts the home stretch competing at the Earle Tennis Center at 2 p.m. Southern Conference action begins March 9 with a 2 p.m. start against UNC Greensboro. On March 10, the Bulldogs will face two opponents, James Madison at 9 a.m. and East Carolina at 2 p.m. Conference action resumes on March 11 against last season's SoCon Champion Furman followed by Georgia Southern on March 13 at noon. The home stanza wraps up as The Citadel hosts Jacksonville State on March 15, UNC Charlotte on March 19 and SoCon foe Elon on March 21.

The Cadets head back out on the road on March 24 when the Bulldogs travel to Davidson, N.C. to face Davidson at 3 p.m. and return to Charleston to face the College of Charleston on March 31 at 3:30 p.m. The Citadel opens April traveling to Chattanooga, Tenn. to play SoCon opponent Chattanooga on April 2 at 2 p.m., and heads to Birmingham, Ala. to compete against Samford on April 3 at 11 a.m.

The next four matches include meetings with first-time opponents, each on the road. The Bulldogs travel to Durham, N.C. on April 5 for action with North Carolina Central at 2 p.m. and on April 6 to face Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C. On the same day, The Citadel will rally against Winston Salem State in Winston Salem, N.C., followed by Brevard College in Brevard, N.C. on April 7.

The Citadel concludes regular season road action in Boone, N.C., followed with their final matches at home at the Earle Tennis Center. In Boone, the Cadets will take on Lee's McRae on April 8 at 1 p.m. The Bulldogs will finish the last two games of SoCon play with Appalachian State and Wofford, on April 9 and April 17, respectively. 

The SoCon Championships will be held on April 24-25, hosted by the institution with the highest conference winning percentage in women's tennis (both men's and women's competition will be held at the same location.)

The Bulldogs look to improve on last season's finish of 8-15 and 1-9 in Southern Conference action.
