When playing in Chattanooga, the Mocs lead 15-5-1 and when playing in Charleston The Citadel has a 11-9-1 advantage. The last time these teams met was on Nov. 15, 2008. All-America wide receiver Andre Roberts scored the game-winning touchdown on a punt return with less than two minutes left in the game to claim the 24-21 win for The Citadel. The last time the Bulldogs claimed a victory in Chattanooga was The Citadel's 2007 conference season-opener on Sept. 29. The Citadel won, 41-16.
The Bulldogs:
The Citadel (4-5 overall; 2-4 SoCon) is coming off a disappointing homecoming loss against Wofford. The Bulldogs, who were on a two-game winning streak, extended their losing streak against the Terriers to 11 with a 43-17 defeat at Johnson Hagood Stadium last Saturday.
The Citadel has experienced an up-and-down SoCon season that included forcing overtime against Appalachian State and falling by only three points, then losing on the road at Elon and becoming Western Carolina's only SoCon win this season. The Bulldogs returned home and won two big SoCon games against rival Furman and a come-from-behind victory over Samford.
The Bulldogs have only won one out of the last 10 road games. The lone victory came this season against Princeton. However, the last SoCon road victory for the Bulldogs came in 2007 when they defeated Western Carolina 37-31 in Cullowhee, N.C.
The Mocs:
Chattanooga (5-4 overall; 3-4 SoCon) is enjoying their most successful season since 2005 when the Mocs went 6-5 overall and 3-4 in the SoCon. Their five victories this season are one shy of their total wins in the past three seasons. Coming off a one-win 2008, Chattanooga has claimed victories over Glenville State, Presbyterian and the SoCon's Wofford, Samford and Western Carolina. The Mocs have recorded losses to Furman, Georgia Southern, Elon and Appalachian State. Their largest margin of defeat was to Elon in a 45-10 final.
The Mocs are coming off a 35-20 loss against Appalachian State last weekend in Boone, N.C. Quarterback B.J. Coleman went 25-46-3 for 246 and one touchdown. Running back Chris Awuah led the running game with 28 carries for 97 net yards, while Chris Pitchford caught nine passes for 106 receiving yards. The Mocs totaled 351 yards of total offense to ASU's 322. The Chattanooga defense held Armanti Edwards to 52 yards rushing and 140 yards in the air with two interceptions.
