SPARTANBURG, S.C. After posting a week where he went 7-for-15 and hit four home runs, Chris McGuiness was named Southern Conference Player of the Week as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.
McGuiness batted .467 last week in a 7-for-15 performance while being walked six times and getting hit by a pitch once. Four of his seven hits were home runs, including two in Friday's 13-3 win over Wofford. McGuiness hit a home run in three consecutive games last week and notched 11 RBI while scoring seven runs. Five of his seven hits were extra-base hits as he added double to his credit and had a slugging percentage of 1.333.
The honor marks the second time this season a Bulldog player has been named SoCon Player of the Week, joining Richard Jones in earning that accolade this year.
Four Bulldogs in all have been honored by the Southern Conference as pitchers Zach Garrett and Drew Mahaffey have both earned Pitcher of the Week honors.
The Citadel returns to action on Tuesday, April 7 as the Bulldogs travel to Mount Pleasant to face the College of Charleston at 6 p.m. Darren Goldwater will call the action from Patriots Point Field on ESPN 910AM The Team with a pregame show airing at around 5:40 p.m.
