Charleston, S.C. - The Citadel Football will travel to Princeton, N.J. for the first time to take on the Princeton Tigers on Saturday at 3 p.m. The game can be listened to on Bulldog Insider at www.CitadelSports.com or on ESPN Radio 910 The Team with the Voice of the Bulldogs Darren Goldwater and color analyst Walt Nadzak.
The Citadel and Princeton will meet for only the second time in the schools' history this weekend. Last season's 37-24 Bulldog victory in Charleston marked the first time the teams met and the first time any current Southern Conference opponent competed against a member of the Ivy League.
The Citadel will be returning to the field after a week off. The Bulldogs opened the season on Sept. 5 with a 40-6 loss at No. 21 North Carolina. Redshirt freshman defensive back Joseph Boateng earned SoCon Defensive Player of the Week after his impressive college debut. He returned two interceptions for 20 yards and totaled seven tackles to lead the Bulldog defensive effort.
Princeton just hosted their first scrimmage on Sept. 5. As a member of the Ivy League, the Tigers are only allowed to play 10 games in a season. Therefore, Princeton did not start fall camp until Aug. 26 and will be competing for the first time on Saturday against the Bulldogs.
Note: The trip to New Jersey will be a homecoming for two Bulldog coaches. Head Coach Kevin Higgins and assistant Coach Aashon Larkins both grew up in the Garden State. Higgins, a native of Emerson, N.J., attended Emerson High School where he was a captain of the football, basketball and baseball teams during his senior year. Larkins is a native of Hackensack, N.J. and attended Hackensack High School where he played football. Larkins was recruited by Princeton but attended Lehigh where he was a three-year letterman.
A game recap and statistics will be available online immediately following the game. For more information on Bulldog Football, go to the official website of The Citadel Athletics, www.CitadelSports.com.
