Mobile, Ala. - For the first time in five years, The Citadel will be represented in the Under Armour Senior Bowl. Wide receiver André Roberts has officially accepted an invitation to the 2010 game, bowl officials announced Sunday. Kickoff for the 61st game is set for 3 p.m. (CT) on Jan. 30 in Mobile's Ladd-Peebles Stadium. The game and all practices will be televised by the NFL Network.
Roberts was named a Walter Payton Award finalist (FCS Player of the Year) and third team All-American by the Sports Network in 2009. He was also a first team All-Southern Conference selection by the league coaches and media this season after reeling in 77 catches for 792 yards and eight touchdowns. As a punt returner, Roberts tallied 217 yards-sixth best in FCS this year.
He leaves The Citadel as the school's all-time leader in single-game receptions (14), single-game punt returns (8), single-season receptions (95), single-season receiving yards (1,334), single-season punt return yards (461), career catches (285), career receiving yards (3,743) and career punt return yardage (1,160). He is also second all-time in Southern Conference history in career catches (285), career passing yards (3,743) and fourth in punt return yards (1,160).
Roberts is the 10th player from The Citadel to earn an Under Armour Senior Bowl invitation and first since Nehemiah Broughton represented the Bulldogs in the 2005 game.
