Operation: Haiti Relief a Success

Charleston, S.C. - The Citadel Athletics Department, like many others around the world, has been emotionally affected by the terrible tragedy of the earthquake in the Republic of Haiti. While the search, rescue and recovery is still taking place, the desperate need of support increases.

Many athletic teams around the country include players from the Caribbean island and The Citadel is not excluded. Freshman football player Sadath Jean Pierre and sophomore wrestler Pierre Frazile are from Haiti and still have family living there. While, thankfully, their immediate family members have been accounted for, the affects of the natural disaster lingers on.

As a result, The Citadel Athletics Media Relations Department organized Operation: Haiti Relief to raise money to donate to the American Red Cross on behalf of The Citadel Athletics Department. Donations were collected at basketball games on Thursday, Jan. 21 and Saturday, Jan. 23 and at the wrestling competition on Sunday, Jan. 24. A total of $814 was collected and donated to the Red Cross to support the Haiti relief effort.

The Citadel Athletics Department would like to thank all Citadel staff members, coaches, athletes and fans who supported this great cause and ask that you continue to keep Pierre, Sadath, their families and all the people of Haiti in your prayers.
