Charleston, S.C. - The Citadel Football team wrapped up the 2010 season with two Southern Conference Player of the Week honors, announced Monday by the league office. Senior defensive back Demetrius Jackson was named SoCon Defensive Player of the Week, while freshman quarterback Ben Dupree claimed SoCon Freshman of the Week after the Bulldogs' 13-12 victory at Samford on Saturday in Birmingham, Ala.
Jackson finished second on the team on Saturday with eight tackles, all of which were solo. With Samford driving inside The Citadel territory in the final minute of the game, Jackson broke up Dustin Taliaferro's pass attempt on fourth down, forcing a turnover on downs and sealing The Citadel victory with 31 seconds left on the clock. Jackson's eight tackles tied a season-high.
Dupree, who regained the starting role against Elon, got the nod in the Bulldogs' final game of the season. Trailing Samford, 12-7, Dupree ran in from eight yards out with 3:04 left to play to give The Citadel the 13-12 advantage. He concluded the game with 22 rushing yards and also completed 3-of-5 pass attempts for 29 yards as The Citadel earned its second consecutive win over Samford and their first SoCon road victory since 2007.
