Wells Named SoCon Player of the Week

Spartanburg, S.C. - The Citadel's Cameron Wells was named Southern Conference Player of the Week for all games played November 23-29 the league office announced on Tuesday.  Wells averaged 23.5 points per game last week, leading the Bulldogs to a 71-63 victory over High Point last week.  It marks the third time in his career that Wells has received SoCon Player of the Week accolades, including the weeks of Feb. 17, 2009 and Jan. 18, 2010.

Wells, a senior from Houston, Texas, scored a game-high 25 points as The Citadel downed the Panthers for their first victory of the season.  He added seven rebounds, three assists and a steal in 34 minutes of action.  Wells reached the 20-point plateau for the 30th time in his career with 22 points against Coastal Carolina as the Bulldogs fell 72-64 to the Chanticleers.  He scored 15 of The Citadel's 31 points in the second half and dished out five assists.

Wells begins the week just 65 points shy of the school's all-time scoring mark, currently held by Regan Truesdale (1,661).  The senior guard is third in the Southern Conference in scoring (20.0 ppg) and is tied for seventh in assists (3.8 apg).  Wells leads the SoCon in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.7) and has connected on 87.5 percent of his free throw attempts, which is tied for the third-best mark in the league.

The Citadel returns home for a three-game series that includes the opening of Southern  Conference play against Georgia Southern (Dec. 2) and Davidson (Dec. 4) before hosting St. Mary's College (Md.) on Dec. 6.
