Spartanburg, S.C. - The Southern Conference announced Monday that junior Asher Wojciechowski has been tabbed Pitcher of the Week from the opening weekend of the 2010 season.
Wojciechowski struck out nine batters over seven innings in The Citadel's 4-1 win against East Tennessee State in the season opener on Friday afternoon. The junior allowed just three singles and one run on the day while holding the Buccaneers hitless over the final four innings. A native of Sturgis, Mich., Wojciechowski threw 99 pitches, and his seven innings of work were the most of any league pitcher over the weekend.
This was the second time that Wojciechowski has won this award. In 2008, he was dubbed SoCon Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 25 following an impressive collegiate debut in which he struck out nine batters without allowing a run and only giving up two hits in six innings.
Monday's game against Kansas State was cancelled due to rain. The Bulldogs return to action on Friday in The Charleston Crab House Shootout as they face St. Joseph's at 4 p.m. For more information on The Citadel baseball, visit the official site at CitadelSports.com.
