Charleston, S.C. - The Citadel football team took the field for their third installment of 2010 spring practice season Wednesday afternoon in cold and overcast conditions at the Maybank Triplets Practice Facility at Willson Field. The Bulldogs, worked out in full pads today for the first time this spring.
“Players were excited for today's practice as it was the first day of full pads,” said head coach Kevin Higgins. “We adjusted our practice routine to accommodate the installation of the triple option. After several balls on the ground, the offense settled down and executed adequately. I think our defensive players are playing fast. We have simplified our scheme and consequently there are less mental errors. Our players have adapted extremely well to our new coaches.”
The Bulldog practiced for two and a half hours on the afternoon as they did last Saturday and on Tuesday to start off the spring season.
“Our defense had a good first day, they are playing are with a lot of emotion and enthusiasm. Guys are starting to step-up from a leadership standpoint. Today was the first day that we did some live work running the option versus the defense and our guys on defense got lined up and executed their responsibilities.”
Practice will resume on Friday and Saturday to complete the first full week of spring football. For further information on Bulldog Football and The Citadel Athletics, visit the official website of Bulldog Athletics at www.CitadelSports.com.
