Charleston, S.C. - The Citadel head tennis coach Toby Simpson announces the signing of James Atkinson, Dillon Berkabile and John Dunn to the 2010-11 Bulldog roster. These three highly regarded recruits hail from North Carolina, Nevada and New York and will bolster The Citadel returning line-up.
James Forsyth Atkinson/6-0/170: A native of Cary, N.C., Atkinson attends Cary Academy and is a three-star recruit and one of the top players in North Carolina according to tenniscrecruiting.net. A four-year letterman at Cary Academy, Atkinson is a two-time All-State player and his Cary team is back-to-back state champions. He is also a three-time All-Conference player that recorded a 24-1 record as a junior. He chose The Citadel over West Point, U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force and several others.
Dillon Ross Berkabile/6-1/155: Berkabile is a three-star recruit and is ranked No. 4 in the state of Nevada by tennisrecruiting.net. He attends Odyssey Charter High School in Las Vegas, Nev. and currently trains at the Hilton Tennis Academy. "He is one of the hardest working players I have ever coached," said his current coach Adam Carey. "He has goals to compete on the professional tennis tour."
Berkabile chose The Citadel over Loyola Marymount, University Pacific, East Carolina and Eastern Washington. He will major in business at The Citadel in the fall 2010.
John Bowen Dunn/6-4/175: Dunn is from Westchester County, N.Y. but attended Weil Tennis Academy in Southern California his junior and senior years. He is a member of the National Honor Society and is a hard working, determined player who plans to take his game to the next level. He chose The Citadel over Dartmouth and West Point. He will enroll at The Citadel in the fall 2010 and major in political science.
"All three players are extremely excited to play and compete for the Bulldogs," said Simpson. "The coaching staff and I are looking forward to their immediate impact in the line-up."
