Talley Collects Second SoCon Pitcher of the Week Award

Spartanburg, S.C. - The Southern Conference announced Monday that junior Matt Talley has been tabbed Pitcher of the Week for his performance against UNC Greensboro on May 15.

Talley threw his second complete game shutout in four weeks on Saturday against UNC Greensboro in a 5-0 Bulldogs' win. Talley scattered seven hits and struck out eight, walking only one in the shutout. The southpaw followed teammate Asher Wojciechowski's complete game on Friday to post back-to-back complete games for The Citadel, which surrendered just three runs in the three-game series.

The left-hander allowed just one extra-base hit as he improved to 6-3 on the season and 5-1 in Southern Conference play. In his last five starts, the preseason first team All-Southern Conference pitcher is 4-1 with an ERA of 1.66 in 38.0 innings pitched, two complete game shutouts and 29 strikeouts.

This is the fourth SoCon Pitcher of the Week awarded to a Bulldog pitcher this season, the most of any school in the conference. Talley's two nods match Wojciechowski's two awards on Feb. 22 and March 15. Talley's performance was the fourth complete game and the fourth shutout for The Citadel this season.

The Bulldogs wraps up their non-conference slate with a Tuesday evening game at Winthrop scheduled to start at 5 p.m. in Rock Hill. Live stats will be available. A full recap and box score will follow shortly after the game. Stay current on Citadel baseball at CitadelSports.com.
