Altman Inks Deal with San Diego Padres

Charleston, S.C. - The Citadel's Bryan Altman has officially signed a contract with San Diego Padres organization.

Altman was chosen by San Diego Padres in the 41st round as the 1,234st overall pick in the third day of last week's Major League Baseball Draft. He joined former Bulldogs Jonathan Ellis (2004) and Zach Brown (2007) as the third player drafted by Padres organization.

The second baseman and catcher led the team this season with an average of .343 to go with a team-leading 17 homers and 70 RBI. He added 20 doubles, 15 stolen bases, 61 runs and 20 walks to go with 85 hits.

The Summerville, S.C. native finishes up in the career top-10 in eight different offensive categories. Altman ranks tied for second in most games played, second in at-bats, third in RBI, fourth in runs scored, fourth in hits, fourth in total bases, fourth in doubles and fifth in home runs. 

He also finishes third highest in a single season with 70 RBI and his 14 homers are tied for tenth most in a single season. 

Altman was tabbed as an all-conference second team selection at second base by the league head coaches this season. He was also listed to the all-region team for his play in the NCAA Tournament in Columbia last weekend.

The final career statistics for Altman were 238 games played, 208 runs, 310 hits, 64 doubles, 33 homers, 187 RBI, 70 walks and 33 stolen bases to go along with a career batting average of .320.

"Alt" has been designated to play for for the Arizona League Padres in Peoria, Arizona.
