Charleston, S.C. - The Citadel Baseball Head Coach Fred Jordan and former Bulldog athlete Lee Glaze have been selected to the Charleston Baseball Hall of Fame's Induction Class of 2010.
Formal induction into the Charleston Baseball Hall of Fame takes place on the field of Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park on Friday, August 6, prior to the Charleston RiverDogs - Savannah Sand Gnats game that begins at 7:05 p.m.
Glaze was a standout on The Citadel's baseball and football teams and was named Southern Conference Athlete of the Year in 1986. He earned first-team all-conference honors in football in 1985 and was a two-time first-team All-SoCon selection in baseball. The James Island native is listed among The Citadel's all-time players in runs, hits, total bases, doubles, runs batted in, batting average, at bats and games played, and recorded 12 assists from centerfield as a junior. He was inducted in The Citadel Athletic Hall of Fame in 1996.
Jordan is a local product who became The Citadel's all-time winningest coach in 2010 as his Bulldogs won their fifth Southern Conference regular-season title, seventh tournament crown and made their seventh appearance in a NCAA Regional during his 19-year tenure. He currently has a career record of 666-472 and recently collected his fourth SoCon Coach of the Year Award.
An advisory committee consisting of knowledgeable and local volunteers was created to come up with 12 names as potential nominees. Voting was conducted by the readership of The Post and Courier through an official ballot that appeared in the paper and online. More than 1,800 baseball fans voted online and through the mail and chose Glaze, Jordan, longtime West Ashley coach D.K. Walters and North Charleston's Kenny Wilkinson
The Charleston Baseball Hall of Fame is jointly coordinated and operated by The Post and Courier and the RiverDogs. The Hall of Fame is located inside Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.
