Charleston, S.C.- Citadel Basketball Head Coach Chuck Driesell announced the third NCAA Division I transfer to join the program on Friday, adding graduate senior Mike Dejworek from Belmont University. Dejworek, with one year of eligibility remaining, can use his 6-foot-11 frame to make a formidable front court for the Bulldogs alongside Morakinyo Williams.
In 2008-09, Dejworek appeared in 24 games and registered a season-high six points in a road contest at Jacksonville. In his only, which came against Stetson, Dejworek completed a solid defensive effort with a season-high five rebounds, one block and one steal to lead the Bruins to victory. Belmont reached the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship where they were tripped up by East Tennessee State. Despite the loss they earned a bid to the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament where they defeated Evansville in the opening round before closing out their season at Old Dominion.
As a sophomore, Dejworek refined his post skills and started in three of the 24 contests in which he played. He netted a career-high 12 points in an 83-54 victory over Fisk on Dec. 4. Dejworek scored four points over a five minute span as the Bruins captured an 85-83 victory at Alabama in early November. In six minutes of play against 23rd ranked Xavier, Dejworek grabbed two caroms and blocked a pair of Musketeers shots. He would go onto close out the season finished tied second on the team with nine blocked shots.
Dejworek's career began with the first of back-to-back Atlantic Sun Conference championships in 2006-07 and 2007-08. The 2006-07 season was highlighted by a 23-10 overall record and meeting with fourth seeded Georgetown in the NCAA Tournament. In a limited role, Dejworek managed one assist against the Hoyas. He established season-high's in points (five) and minutes played (13) in an 87-32 triumph over North Florida.
