Charleston, S.C. - The Citadel head football coach Kevin Higgins will be taking part in the inaugural South Carolina Coaches for Charity event on July 29 in Columbia, S.C.
South Carolina Coaches for Charity will bring together the top college football coaches from around the state, including Mike Ayers (Wofford), Bobby Lamb (Furman), Buddy Pough (South Carolina State), Steve Spurrier (South Carolina) and Dabo Swinney (Clemson). It will feature a Cocktail Reception, Low Country Cuisine, comments from the coaches, a live and silent auction and plenty of fun.
The purpose of the event is to solely raise money for various charities. Each head coach in attendance will designate a charity that receives a portion of the night's proceeds. All benefiting charities will have a representative in attendance. Higgins' charity of choice will be Hope for Haiti.
Former U.S. Air Force Academy head football coach and South Carolina native Fisher DeBerry is hosting the event through the Fisher DeBerry Foundation. The event will take place at the Embassy Suites in Columbia.
"The football coaches we have in this state are not only great coaches, but terrific people," said DeBerry. "For them to take time out of their busy pre-season schedules and come together in the name of charity says a lot about each of them. And for fans around the state to be able to see all these coaches together in the same room just a month before the season kicks off is a special treat."
Tables and individual tickets are now on sale for the event, but are limited. The more tickets and tables purchased by fans of each of the schools, the more money that will go towards that particular coach's charity.
