The Citadel Soccer Heads to Winthrop for Exhibition Match

Charleston, S.C. - The Citadel soccer team will travel to Rock Hill, S.C. for an exhibition match against Winthrop University on Tuesday, Aug. 18 at 6 p.m. at Eagle Field.

The Bulldogs look to make more strides after finishing with another record-setting season in 2009. The Citadel enters the season with eight newcomers to the 2010 roster, while returning seven starters including junior Amy Loughran and senior Nicole Martinoli the top scorers from a year ago. Loughran finished the 2009 campaign with a team-leading eight goals scored to go along with four assists, 20 points and 40 shots. Martinoli followed with seven goals scored, 17 points and 36 shots.

Juniors Whitney Nave and Laura Serafino both return to defend the Bulldogs net. Nave completed the 2009 season with 1,658 minutes of time played, registering three wins and 92 saves, earning first in the Southern Conference in saves.

The exhibition match against Winthrop will be the Bulldogs' only match before beginning the regular season when the Cadets host The Citadel/Nike Invitational at Washington Light Infantry Field (WLI) in a meeting with Jacksonville University on Friday, Aug. 29 at 4 p.m. For more information on Bulldog Soccer, visit the official website of The Citadel Athletics at www.CitadelSports.com.
