Football Fall Camp Report: Day 12

Charleston, S.C. - The Citadel Football team worked out on Thursday morning at Maybank Triplets Practice Facility at Willson Field. The Bulldogs worked out for two-and-a-half hours in sunny conditions in the low-80's.

Coach Kevin Higgins after Day 12:

"Once again we had great weather for our morning practice. Sports Medicine Director Andy Clawson and his staff do a great job of keeping our players hydrated. We have adjusted our practice schedule from previous years because of the uniqueness of the triple option."

"This morning we worked on our kickoff coverage drills with an emphasis on takeoff, avoiding the first line and staying inside and in front of the ball carrier. Our consistency must improve on kick offs."

"We also worked on our four-minute drill. The offense is up by seven points with four minutes left and the goal is to make two or more first downs. Typically we use a heavy run menu with an occasional play action pass. The defense works to force a punt on fourth down and get the ball back. The experience of our defense proved invaluable as they forced two punts."

The team will return to practice at Maybank Triplets Practice Facility for practice on Friday at 8 a.m. The Citadel will host Meet the Bulldogs on Saturday, Aug. 21, following a scrimmage at 1:15 p.m.

The Bulldogs' season-opener will take place at home on Saturday, Sept. 4 against Chowan at Johnson Hagood Stadium. Tickets are available in The Citadel ticket office for the 1 p.m. matchup against the Hawks.
