Charleston, S.C. – Hundreds of fans lined the field at the Maybank Triplets Practice Facility at Willson Field for the annual "Meet the Bulldogs” on Saturday afternoon.
The Citadel Football team scrimmaged for two hours as fans looked on to get a peak of the Bulldog program as they prepare to open the season in two weeks. The team worked out in humid conditions in the upper-80's under overcast skies.
The class of 2014 outlined the field and cheered on their fellow Cadets as fans looked on and cheered from nearby bleachers. Refreshments were available and players gathered in McAlister Field House following the scrimmage for an autograph session.
“The weather held up and we were able to get over 120 plays in the scrimmage,” said Head Coach Kevin Higgins.
“I was pleased with the play of our defense. They played assignment football and caused some turnovers. We have a long way to go on offense. We must look at the tape now and evaluate each quarterback. I believe we came out of the scrimmage healthy.”
“We appreciated all of the fans and alumni that came out to support the team today. It is special for the guys to interact with all those who support Bulldog football.”
No official stats were kept in Saturday's scrimmage. There were no significant injuries reported. The Citadel returns to the practice field on Monday morning at 8 a.m.
The Bulldogs' season-opener will take place at home on Saturday, Sept. 4 against Chowan at Johnson Hagood Stadium. Tickets are available in The Citadel ticket office for the 1 p.m. matchup against the Hawks.
