Charleston, S.C. - The Southern Conference named 139 cadet-student-athletes throughout The Citadel's 16 athletic teams to the Academic Honor Roll for the 2009-2010 academic year.
The Citadel's 139 student-athletes named to the SoCon Honor Roll is the second highest in school history since the program was developed by the athletic directors in the conference prior to the 1988-89 athletic year. The1,921 total student-athletes placed on the 2009-10 Honor Roll throughout the 12 member institutions is the most in conference history.
Among The Citadel's 139 athletes awarded, five of them earned a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Senior Anthony Maldonado (football), senior Ryan Keiper (football), senior Kristine Devine (soccer), sophomore Josh Cook (tennis), and sophomore Shanna Couch (soccer) all recorded perfect 4.0 grade point averages. The Bulldog Football team posted the highest number of honor roll athletes with 48.
The Southern Conference academic honor roll consists of student-athletes who participated in varsity sports at one of the 12 member institutions of the Southern Conference and achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or higher while passing 24 credit hours in two semesters of classes or its equivalent for other academic calendars. The program was established as a way of recognizing the conferences outstanding student-athletes.
