Charleston, S.C. - The Bulldog Soccer team will travel to North Charleston for action against neighbor Charleston Southern on Saturday, Sept. 18 at 11 a.m.
The Citadel
The Citadel currently holds a 3-3-1 overall record after picking up a 4-1 victory against South Carolina State on Wednesday afternoon. Led by freshman Nicole Levermann's two goals, junior Amy Loughran and freshman Mariana Garcia each scored for the Bulldogs. Defensively, The Citadel held SC State to 10 shots as junior goalkeeper Laura Searfino registered three saves in 90 minutes of play.
Garcia continues to lead the team offensively overall with three goals scored, 14 shots, 10 on goal, one assist and seven points. Loughran follows closely with 13 shots, six on goal, one assist and two goals scored. Of the three goalkeepers with time played, Serafino edges the trio with 560 minutes of action including 39 saves, and a 1.77 goals against average.
Scouting the Opponent
Charleston Southern Buccaneers
Led by head coach Eric Terrill, Charleston Southern enters the match holding a 4-3-0 overall record. Most recently the Buccaneers competed in the Navy Tournament where the team finished 1-1 by defeating the U.S. Naval Academy (2-1) before falling to Towson (0-1). Marky Boyce leads the team with nine goals scored, 29 shots, 20 on goal and one assist. Her nine goals leads the entire NCAA in total goals scored. Defending the Bucs goal, Amy Arroyo has 33 saves recorded from over 651 minutes played.
Last Time
The last time the two teams met was last season at The Citadel. The Bulldogs suffered a 2-1 loss to the Bucs. Charleston Southern took an early lead going 1-0 into the half. Former Cadet Dianna Martin tied the match, but five minutes later the Bucs regained the lead with a goal that would eventually be the match-winning shot.
