Charleston, S.C. – After 30 auditions from interested individuals in the Charleston community, The Citadel has selected their new public address announcer for Bulldogs Basketball, Jimmie Guyton.
Guyton's hire caps a two-week search, during which fans had the opportunity to apply in-person at McAlister Field House on the night of Monday, Oct. 24.
The Summerville, S.C. native worked for nine years as a private disc jockey for Sonny's Mobile Music. Guyton has previous experience in working as a public address announcer, most recently for softball and volleyball events at Ashley Ridge High School. Prior to that, Guyton served as the PA announcer for Fort Dorchester High School softball games. Guyton is a Plant Safety Specialist for Alcoa in Goose Creek.
"I am very excited about this opportunity that I have been given," said Guyton. "I've been told for years to try and do this, but I didn't have the time in my schedule. It was one of those things that the opportunity opened the door at the right time for me, so I am looking forward to this. I give my daughters, Amber and Chelsea, a lot of credit for pushing me to try out for this at The Citadel."
The 2011-12 Citadel Basketball season opens at the inaugural All Military Classic in Colorado Springs, Colo. against VMI, on Nov. 11. The tournament concludes the following day when The Citadel goes head-to-head against either Air Force or Army. On Nov. 16, The Citadel hosts Clemson, marking the first time that the two teams have played at McAlister Field House since Nov. 28, 1989. Five days later, the Bulldogs complete a two-game homestand when they square off against Florida Christian. The Dogs complete the first month of action with a road game at High Point on Nov. 26.
