One-on-one with Citadel signee Ashton Moore

Editor's Note: This is the fifth installment of an eight-part series that analyzes the 2010-11 Citadel basketball class. This week we will focus on Suffolk, Va. native and guard Ashton Moore. Next week will be an in-depth look at Greensboro, N.C. native Jordan Robertson.

Charleston, S.C.— In April, Citadel Head Basketball Coach Chuck Driesell announced his eighth commitment in the 2011-12 class, when Nansemond River High School guard Ashton Moore signed a National-Letter of Intent. Moore, a standout player named to the Virginia Coaches Association AAA All-Star Game, averaged 18 points, 4.3 assists and 4.3 rebounds in his senior season at Nansemond River.

Moore, who played under coach Ed Young, was also recruited by Saint Peters, New Hampshire and North Carolina A&T before inking his NLI with The Citadel. Among his individual honors include Eastern Region All-Region team, First Team All-Tidewater and being named Southeastern District Player of the Year. Moore led the Warriors to a 21-6 overall record in 2010-11, including a 16-3 mark and the Southeastern Division championship. Nansemond River placed 33rd among teams in the Commonwealth of Virginia according to MaxPreps.com.

Q: What is your intended major at The Citadel and how did you reach this decision?

Moore: "Sports Medicine."

Q: What was your knowledge of head coach Chuck Driesell before making your decision to attend The Citadel?

Moore: "That his dad was a great a coach and that he plans to follow in his father's footsteps."

Q: What was your familiarity with The Citadel before making your decision to attend?

Moore: "I knew that a former player from my high school attended The Citadel."

Q: List some goals that you have for the upcoming season.

Moore: "I want to help the team get better, win by any means necessary, and better my own skills."

Q: What is the biggest highlight of your basketball career to this point?

Moore: "Making the All-State Team."

Q: Name some personal and team accomplishments that you have made during your high school playing career. (ex: Most Valuable player, State Championship, All-Time Leading scorer, etc.)

Moore: "Being named First Team All-State, Southeastern District Player of the Year, First Team All-Region, First Team All-Tidewater and First Team All-City.

Q: What is your earliest basketball memory? (ex: playing in the backyard, pick-up games, summer camp experiences, etc.)

Moore: "Shooting outside with my dad from sun up to sun down."
