Charleston, S.C. – The Citadel Volleyball team opened practice for the 2011 season under new Head Coach Amir Khaledi on Tuesday.
The team, comprised of eight upperclassmen and six freshmen, focused on individual passing, digging and service game drills. Khaledi will now turn his attention to installing offensive and defensive sets and solidifying position assignments.
"Today was an excellent first day of practice," said Khaledi. "We got a feel of where we need to start from by getting everyone on the court for the first time. By combining the style of play for the returning players with the newcomers, we were very impressed with the first practice session."
The Citadel opens the 2011 slate on August 26 when they participate in the Hampton University Tournament. On the first day of action they will play Maryland-Eastern Shore and the host Pirates. On Aug. 27, the Bulldogs are scheduled to play Bethune-Cookman and Savannah State. Three days later, The Citadel closes out the month when they host the traditional Blue-White scrimmage at McAlister Field House at 6 p.m.
