Charleston, S.C. — The Citadel tennis team will return to action on Saturday when it travels to Spartanburg, S.C. for a non-conference bout against Spartanburg Methodist at 11 a.m.
Last Time Out
The Citadel enters the match coming off its first win of the season against Benedict. The Bulldogs move to 1-2 overall after defeating the Tigers 6-1. The Citadel opened the match sweeping the doubles point by winning in all three positions. In singles, four different Bulldogs claimed their first victory of the season. Leading the Bulldogs is junior David Orces who has a 2-0 record in singles and a 2-1 record in doubles while competing in the No. 1 slot. Sophomore Elliott Sperr also leads the Bulldogs with a 2-1 singles record on the season.
Bulldogs vs. Pioneers
This match will mark the first-ever meeting between the two tennis programs. Spartanburg Methodist is one of six teams that will make their debut against the Bulldogs this season.
Spartanburg Methodist
The Pioneers are currently 1-4 on the season with their lone win coming against Pfeiffer. Head Coach Marcus Sarstrand, in his second year with the Pioneers, welcomes back Matheus Barcela, Johnathan Connor, CJ Freeman, Kendrae Hiers, and Corey White. Spartanburg Methodist competes in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic Association, which includes colleges in the Carolinas, Virginia, and West Virginia.
