2012 SoCon Championships Outlook…

Bulldog Head Coach Jody Huddleston is heading into the meet with giant expectations from six-time conference champion Brunson Miller in both the 200 and 400. Miller has overtaken his own school record in the 200 twice this season, first at the Kent Taylor Invitational where he posted a time of 21.95 and then a week later at the Tiger Paw Invitational, establishing a record time of 21.75.  The Murrells Inlet, S.C., native also broke the schools' 400 record at the Wesley A. Brown Invitational, posting a time of 47.97, .16 seconds better than his record-setting time from a year ago.

Miller will also anchor the 4x400 relay team that will compete for a chance at the nine-year-old school record time of 3:16.34.

Sophomore David Melton, who broke The Citadel's pole vault record this season at the Wesley A. Brown Invitational with a mark of 15'3", will look to place in the top four, while Jamaal Brantley (60/200/4x400), Daniel Till (60/400/4x400) and Christian Graham (60/200) will look to gain points in their respective events.

On the women's side, Micah Wessinger, who currently holds the school record in the 800, will look to capture a top-4 time. The junior took first place her freshman year and has finished third in the 800 at the last two conference championship meets.

Freshman Savannah Emmrich became the first woman pole vaulter in school history to clear a vault over 10 feet, accomplishing the task three times this season at the Kent Taylor Invitational (10'2"), Tiger Paw Invitational (10'10.25"-school record) and the Gamecock Invitational (10').

Hanahan High School graduate Tanisha Bethel will compete in the 60 and the 200. Bethel holds the freshman records in both events and holds school records as a member of the 4x200, 4x400 and distance medley relay teams.

Bethel and her 4x400 relay team of Danielle McKee, Micah Wessinger and Erinn Carter will look to record a time under the four-minute mark, a feat that is yet to be accomplished by The Citadel women.

Nicole Levermann, who was named to last season's all-conference freshman team, will look to earn her team points as she will participate in the pentathlon (shot put, high jump, 60 hurdles, 800, long jump) as well as individual events of high jump, hurdles and shot put.

A recap and results will follow the conclusion of each day of the event. For more information on Bulldog track and field, visit the official website of The Citadel Athletics at www.citadelsports.com.
