Allen Closes in on School Javelin Record at Weems Baskin Invitational

Columbia, S.C. – Clay Allen heaved the javelin a personal-best 204'6" to fall just four inches short of the school record held by now assistant coach Kris Kut at the Weems Baskin Invitational in Columbia, S.C.

Allen continues to post impressive marks in just his second season with the team. The Duncan, S.C., native has finished in the top 10 at each of the three outdoor meets and currently stands second in the conference for the event.

On the track, distance runner Austin Waldrop continues to look sharp in the 5,000, recording a second place time of 15:33.67, while Micah Wessinger finished in 16th place in the 400, posting a personal-best mark of 57.67 to move her into third place all-time for the Bulldogs.

Tanisha Bethel ran top 10 times for the Bulldogs in the 100 and the 200, recording marks of 12.61 (seventh all-time) and 25.61 (third all-time), respectively. Freshman teammate Alexandria Moss entered the top 10 in the 400 with a time of 1:00.86, moving her into a tie for eighth place.

Eddie Jones continued his stellar season in the triple jump on Saturday, posting a personal-best mark of 46'10.75" to capture third place and move into sixth place all-time for the Bulldogs in the event. David Melton nabbed fourth place in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 15'5".

Due to inclement weather in Columbia, the women's 5,000, the men's and women's 4x400 relay, women's discus and shot put along with the men's and women's high jump were cancelled prior to completion.

The Bulldogs will head to Raleigh, N.C., next weekend to compete in the Raleigh Relays from March 30-31.
