Spartanburg, S.C. – Geno Porter was tabbed as the Southern Conference's track and field athlete of the week for his performance in the 35lb. weight throw at the Wesley A. Brown Invitational this past weekend. The selections are made by the league's track and field coaches.
In the midst of his first season as a member of the Bulldogs' track and field team, Porter has broken the school's freshman record in the weight throw in consecutive weeks to open his collegiate career.
The Ladson, S.C., native took sixth place at last weekend's meet, hosted by The United States Naval Academy, recording a huge 50'6.75" throw to shatter the freshman record and move into sixth place in The Citadel's all-time record book.
The Citadel will be back in action this weekend as it heads to Winston-Salem, N.C., to participate in the Hilton Garden Invitational. The meet will be held at the brand new JDL Fast Track, which will be the site of the 2013 Southern Conference Indoor Championships on Feb. 23-24.
