The Citadel Hosts Elon on Friday and Senior Day Contest with UNCG on Sunday

Charleston, S.C. – The Citadel women's soccer team returns to action with a pair of Southern Conference home games including a Senior Day clash with UNCG on Sunday.

The Bulldogs face Elon on Friday at 4 p.m. at WLI Field before hosting the Spartans two days later at 2 p.m. Prior to the game against UNCG, The Citadel will honor seniors Mariana Garcia, Ruth Leiva, Nicole Levermann, Jillian Meyer and Sarah Katchen.

The Citadel is looking to break into the win column in SoCon play after dropping contests at Furman and Wofford last weekend. The Bulldogs are 2-5-2 overall but undefeated in four home games with wins over Jacksonville State and Charleston Southern and ties with Canisius and Winthrop.

Garcia is third in the SoCon with six goals and tied for fifth with 12 points while Meyer is tied for fifth in the league with three assists. Naomi Carter has a conference-leading 86 saves.

Elon is 6-1-3 and 1-0-1 in the SoCon with a win over Western Carolina and a draw with Appalachian State. The Phoenix has outscored its opponents by a 26-10 margin including three shutouts.

Nicole Dennion is second in the conference with seven goals and 17 points while Jennifer McGorty is among the leaders in both categories with five goals and 12 points. Olivia Mackey leads Elon with four assists, tied for second in the SoCon, and Kate Murphy is fifth with a goals against average of 0.85.

The Phoenix lead the all-time series 8-1-1, but The Citadel has its win and tie in the past three seasons. The Bulldogs earned a 1-1 draw at Elon last year and came home with a 2-1 road victory in 2010.

UNCG is 5-4-1 entering its Friday game at Francis Marion with its four losses coming by a combined five goals including 1-0 defeats to Washington and Georgia. Like Elon, the Spartans have defeated Western Carolina and tied Appalachian State to stand at 1-0-1 in the SoCon.

As a result of its difficult early season schedule, the Spartans have only scored 10 goals with Chesney White leading the team with three. Jamie Simmons has an 0.67 goals against average, the fourth-best mark in the SoCon, and is tied for first with four shutouts. She is also third with an .875 save percentage.

The Citadel is looking for its first win in 13 tries against UNCG. The Spartans won 2-1ast year in Greensboro.
