Winston-Salem, N.C. – Geno Porter and Micah Wessinger earned spots on the winner's pedestal in the weight throw and 800, respectively, as The Citadel track and field teams wrapped up action on Sunday at the 2013 Southern Conference Indoor Championships on the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Porter, who dominated the Bulldogs' throwing team throughout the season, heaved the 35lb. weight 56'6" to take third place in the event and earn a spot on the all-conference team. Porter, in his first collegiate season, recorded a mark of 50-feet or more in five of the six indoor meets.

The throw moves the Fort Dorchester graduate into second place in Citadel history.

Micah Wessinger ran her way to the pedestal for the third time and scored for her team for the fourth time of her career at the indoor conference championship meet as the senior captain topped her own school record in the 800 with a time of 2:12.70 to earn third place in the event.

Wessinger won the 800 her freshman year before returning in 2011 with a third place finish and a time of 2:12.79. The Chester, S.C., native took seventh place last season in the event.

Both the men's and women's 4x400 relay teams took third place and were tabbed with all-conference honors on Sunday.

The men's 4x400 team of Brantley, Williams, Gus Vazquez-Milan and Kevin Poland posted a time of 3:20.92, while the women's quartet of Wessinger, Danielle McKee, Danielle Williams and Tanisha Bethel clocked in at 3:55.04.

Two other Bulldog throwers, Clay Allen and Dylan Gidado, scored for the men's team in the weight throw taking seventh and eighth place, respectively.

Allen heaved the weight a personal-best 49'3" to move into seventh  all-time, while Gidado took eighth with a throw of 48'9" to improve on his eighth place mark in The Citadel's record book.

Jamaal Brantley finished in fifth place in the 60-sprint finals with a time of 6.94.

Freshman Tevin Williams took seventh in the 400 on the men's side with a time of 50.71, while Caillian Colquitt's 5,000 time of 19:16 moves her into fourth in Citadel history for the event.

Freshmen distance runners Jackie Thompson and Jessica DeWitte also etched their names in the school's record book. Thompson posted a mile time of 5:30.03 to move into eighth all-time, while DeWitte finished closely behind with a time of 5:30.21 to take ninth in Citadel history.

Darius Johnson earned a spot on the all-freshman squad for his performance in the 60 high hurdles, clocking in at 8.78.

The Bulldog men finished in a tie for sixth place with Chattanooga, collecting 27 team points, while the women's team earned 21 points to complete the championship in sole possession of sixth place.

The Appalachian State men and the Western Carolina women captured the team crowns, racking up 183.5 and 149 points, respectively.

The Citadel will kick off its outdoor campaign next weekend at the Battle of the Beaches in Wilmington, N.C., before heading back to Charleston to co-host the annual Palmetto Classic on March 8.
