The Citadel Soccer Team Opens Home Schedule this Weekend

Charleston, S.C. – The Citadel women's soccer team plays host to Jacksonville State and Canisius this weekend at WLI Field in its first two home games of the 2013 season. 

The Bulldogs face the Gamecocks on Friday at 4 p.m. and entertain the Golden Griffins on Sunday at 2 p.m. The Citadel will be looking to break into the win column after losses at Maryland and Navy last weekend.

Jacksonville State is off to a 1-0-1 start after edging McNeese State 1-0 and playing to a 1-1 draw against Louisiana-Lafayette. Jackie Rush and Blair Barker have scored the goals for the Gamecocks while Taylor Hammond has an 0.45 goals against average.

This is the second meeting between The Citadel and Jacksonville State, with the Bulldogs claiming a 1-0 win in Alabama in 2007. The Gamecocks posted a record of 10-8-2 a year ago.

Canisius, out of Buffalo, N.Y., is 1-2 entering its game at Charleston Southern on Friday, having defeated Youngstown State and losing to Cleveland State and St. Bonaventure.

Kelly McMahon is off to a fast start for Canisius with two goals and one assist. Brianna Smith has the other goal for the Griffs, and Megan Tock has a 1.67 goals against average.

The Citadel is 0-1-1 against Canisius with a 2-0 loss at home in 2006 and a 1-1 tie in Buffalo in 2003.

Following the two games this weekend, the Bulldogs will be off until Sunday, Sept. 8 when they take on Charleston Southern at WLI Field. Kickoff for the game against the Buccaneers is at 2 p.m.
