Charleston, S.C. – The Citadel women's soccer team hits the road for the first time since opening weekend when the Bulldogs take on Presbyterian in Clinton, S.C., on Friday at 7 p.m.
The Bulldogs (2-2-1) are riding a three-game unbeaten streak which includes wins over Jacksonville State and Charleston Southern and a tie with Canisius. The streak is the longest since The Citadel won four straight near the end of the 2010 campaign.
Presbyterian (1-2) dropped 2-1 decisions to South Carolina State and Furman to open its season before earning its first victory with a 1-0 shutout of USC Upstate on Sunday. The Blue Hose have won all three games in the series with The Citadel.
Mariana Garcia is looking to continue her early season scoring run, having tallied five of The Citadel's six goals including a hat trick in the win over Jacksonville State. She is tied for first in the Southern Conference and tied for 15th in the nation with an average of 1.00 goals per game and is second in the league and 43rd in the country with 2.00 points per contest.
The senior from Bogota, Colombia, is the SoCon's active leader in career goals (36), points (77) and game-winning goals (13). Fellow senior Jillian Meyer has three assists and is tied for first in the SoCon and tied for 47th nationally with 0.60 per game.
Goalkeeper Naomi Carter leads the SoCon with 41 saves and is tied for ninth in the country with 8.20 per game. The freshman from New Zealand has allowed only three goals in the past three games for a goals against average of 0.93 during that span.
Presbyterian has gotten one goal each from Tori Lopez, Kristen Peagler and Stephanie Allen so far this season. Jordan Broadway (0.67 goals against average) and Sydney Fontenot (1.92) have split time in the net for the Blue Hose.
Following Friday's game, The Citadel returns home to face Winthrop on Wednesday at 4 p.m. The Bulldogs then open SoCon play on Friday, Sept. 27, with a road contest at Furman.
