Charleston, S.C. – The Citadel wrestling team will have its 141-pound All-American Ugi Khishignyam back in the lineup on Sunday at McAlister Fieldhouse when the Bulldogs open Southern Conference action against Appalachian State at 2 p.m.
Khishignyam is expected to return to the Bulldogs' lineup for his first match as an attached wrestler since becoming The Citadel's highest-ranked wrestler in program history with a fourth place finish at the 2013 NCAA Championships last March.
On Wednesday, Ugi's amateurism was recertified by the NCAA Eligibility Center and he was granted one additional season of competition in the sport of men's wrestling based on an interpretative decision by the NCAA.
The Citadel (2-2, 0-0 SoCon) snapped Appalachian State's (4-5, 1-1 SoCon) 11-match SoCon winning streak last season in a 25-13 win over the Mountaineers in Boone.
While the overall series record is dominated by the Mountaineers at 40-7-2, the rivalry has perhaps been the most competitive in conference action of late. The Bulldogs and Mountaineers have gone back and forth in dual meets over the past 12 years with The Citadel holding the slight 6-5-1 edge.
The Citadel is coming off last week's Virginia Duals where it went 1-2 in competition. The Bulldogs fell to Kent State 28-12 before topping Bucknell 19-18 to advance to day two. Rider eliminated the Bulldogs in day two with a 28-15 win.
Aaron Walker won all three bouts at 157 while 16th-ranked Turtogtokh Luvsandorj tallied three wins to improve his season record to 20-5.
Luvsandorj, a two-time SoCon champion, needs just 11 wins to pass Odie Delaney (2013) and Sean Markey (2006) for the most wins in Citadel wrestling history with 126.
Admission to the match is free and live video streaming (subscription required) will be available HERE.
