Charleston, S.C. – University of South Carolina legend and NFL standout George Rogers will appear with his Heisman Trophy at the Tailgate Throwdown prior to the Medal of Honor Bowl on Saturday at Johnson Hagood Stadium.

Rogers will be available for photos and autographs beginning at 11 a.m. at the tailgate tent located in the southwest parking lot to the right of the stadium. The tailgate will also feature children's games and a buffet lunch sponsored by top restaurants and caterers in Charleston.

The Medal of Honor Bowl kicks off at 2 p.m. Tickets are available by going to etix.com.

Rogers starred at South Carolina from 1977-80 and is still the all-time leading rusher in school history with 5,024 yards while ranking second with 31 touchdowns. He was a consensus All-American and Heisman Trophy winner following a senior season in which he rushed for 1,781 yards.

The Duluth, Ga., native was a second team All-American his junior year when he rushed for 1,681 yards.

His number 38 was retired at the final home game of his career, the only Gamecock to have his jersey retired while still an active player. He was named to South Carolina's All-Century team in 1992 and was inducted into the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame in 1997.

Rogers was selected by the New Orleans Saints with the first overall pick in the 1981 NFL Draft and proceeded to set a then-rookie record with 1,674 yards. He was named the NFL Rookie of the Year and earned a trip to the Pro Bowl.

After four seasons in New Orleans, Rogers moved on to Washington and earned his second Pro Bowl invitation while helping the Redskins win the Super Bowl following the 1987 campaign. He finished his NFL career with 7,176 rushing yards and 54 touchdowns.
