Bulldog Tennis Drops Battle to Army

Charleston, S.C. – The Citadel tennis team came up short Friday against Army as the Bulldogs fell 7-0 to the Black Knights. The Bulldogs are now 2-11 going into Saturday's matches against Fairfield and Air Force.

Although The Citadel did not win the doubles point, the duo of Elliot Sperr and Dillon Berkabile earned their third doubles win of the year, defeating Akisa Isoh and Harrison McCormik in the No. 1 position, 9-8.

Four Bulldogs went into tiebreaker sets, but weren't able to secure any points in singles play. Sperr lost to Army's Sam Lampman in the No. 1 slot, 7-5, 7-5.

Berkabile won the first set against Grant Riechman, 6-3, but was defeated in the second set 3-6 and dropped a heartbreaking tiebreaker, 7-6.

Peter Bleach lost to Alex Van Velzer, 6-2, 6-1, in the No. 3 slot, while Jackson Pride fell in the No. 4 position, 7-5, 6-4.

Oliver Dedding, the No. 5 singles player for the Bulldogs, dropped his first set 6-3 to the Black Knight's Peter Sienko, and was edged in his second set in a tiebreaker, 7-5.

Joe Bove dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision in the No. 6 spot to Army's Roman Cacha.

The Bulldogs continue their weekend matches today with a doubleheader at the Earle Tennis Center against Fairfield at 9 a.m. and Air Force at 2 p.m.
