Charleston, S.C. – Walker Smith, a junior defensive back on The Citadel football team, was honored with the Major of the Year Award for his concentration in exercise science by the National Association of Sport and Physical Education (NASPE).
Smith was selected by The Citadel's faculty and was honored at the Inaugural Citadel Academy of Science and Mathematics Awards Banquet at the Charleston Marriott last Friday. He will also be recognized at the organization's national convention held in April in St. Louis, Mo.
Smith, who carries a 3.73 cumulative grade point average, was selected as the team's JB Weber Academic Achievement Award winner and Special Teams Player of the Year at the 2013 Football Awards Dinner in January.
The Denmark, S.C., native is a three-year letterwinner and played in all 12 games in 2013, including his first career start against FBS opponent Old Dominion in week four. In that game Smith blocked a second quarter punt which resulted in a Bulldog touchdown.
