Charleston, S.C. – Former Citadel defensive back Brandon McCladdie was invited to the Dallas Cowboys' rookie mini-camp on a tryout basis this weekend in Valley Ranch, Texas.
"It has always been a childhood dream of mine to play for the Dallas Cowboys, but nothing is guaranteed, so I have to go into camp with something to prove," said McCladdie. "I'm excited about this opportunity and I would like to thank everyone for their continued support."
The five-year standout closed out his five-year career with the Bulldogs having played in all 45 games, starting the final 36 and was named second-team All-Southern Conference in 2013. The Martinez, Ga., native also participated in the inaugural Medal of Honor Bowl all-star game at Johnson Hagood Stadium back in January.
The 6-1, 200-pound cornerback accumulated 58 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss last season and tallied two interceptions in each of his four seasons, giving him eight in his career, which leaves him in a tie for 11th in program history. One of McCladdie's interceptions resulted in a 92-yard return for a touchdown against Wofford.
His league-leading 10 passes defended (interceptions + pass breakups) gave him 27 in his career to place him sixth in Citadel history.
McCladdie will try to join Citadel alums Andre Roberts (Redskins) and Cortez Allen (Steelers) in the NFL.
