Charleston, S.C. – Citadel volleyball head coach Amir Khaledi announced on Tuesday that former Bulldog standout Jessica (Maas) Tkach has joined the staff as an assistant coach.
Tkach, earned her undergraduate degree in political science from The Citadel in 2011 with a 3.75 GPA and was an eight-time member of the Dean's List. She was also a seven-time Goldstar recipient, awarded to those students who attained a 3.70 or higher.
On three occasions Tkach placed on the Southern Conference's All-Academic team and was a Commissioner's Medal recipient.
"Jessica was part of our first recruiting class when I started here as an assistant coach," said Khaledi. "I have known her for many years, and she stood out from the outstanding pool of candidates that applied for the position. She played for me as a middle hitter, and brings a unique perspective to the position as she understands my philosophy and approach that will make for lasting success at The Citadel."
Tkach, a 2011 graduate of The Citadel, capped off her four-year career with 958 kills (2.23 kills per set) and a .230 attack percentage. As the Dogs' middle blocker she finished with 44 solo blocks, 204 assisted blocks and 250 total blocks.
The Richmond, Texas, native still ranks in the top five in career kills (fifth), attack percentage (fifth), assisted blocks (first) and total blocks (fifth).
"I am so excited to return as a coach to my alma mater and work with coach Khaledi," said Tkach. "As a former cadet-student-athlete I know I can bring valuable perspective to the volleyball program that will help take it to the next level. We have some very talented girls on the team, and Amir has lined up some great incoming athletes, so I am excited to get started this summer."
Since graduating in 2011, she used the SoCon's William V. Moore Graduate Scholarship to begin her graduate work in international missions. While in graduate school, she coached 16-and 17-year-old club teams with Mid-America Volleyball Association and Charleston Juniors. Tkach also coached at Porter-Gaud School where she was instrumental in helping the Tornados defend their South Carolina Independent School Association crown.
Jessica married Joe Tkach in December 2013 and the couple resides in Charleston.
