Rifle Wraps up Home Match with Strong Scores From Younger Cadet-Athletes

RESULTS

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel co-ed and women's rifle teams hosted two strong, nationally-ranked programs on Saturday at the Inouye Marksmanship Center. The Bulldogs went up against No. 2 TCU and No. 15 Jacksonville State and performed well, posting aggregate scores of 4509 by the co-ed squad and 3830 for the women's team.

"The team put up decent scores today against some very tough competition and we learned a lot about some of our younger cadets who haven't had a chance to compete against outside competition," said head coach William Smith. "Our younger shooters are progressing very well and competing today without the seniors meant the team was relying on them."

Second-ranked TCU claimed the match with an aggregate score of 4718 while 15^th-ranked Jacksonville State finished second with an aggregate score of 4629. The Horned Frogs claimed the top five individual spots and eight of the top 10. Liz Marsh took top honors with an 1185, including a 588 in smallbore and a 597 in air rifle.

Jacksonivlle Stat's top individual was David Sink, finishing sixth overall with an 1163, including seventh in smallbore with a 575 and sixth in air rifle with a 588.

The Bulldogs, who have gone up against eight nationally-ranked programs already this season, competed without their three seniors, Morgan Long, Colton Poole and Carli Cline, due to Parents Week. This gave the younger Bulldog shooters a great opportunity to go up against the strong competition.

For the co-ed team, freshman Max Brabston continued the strong start to his campaign with an 1146, including finishing 12^th in smallbore with a 572 and 16^th in air rifle with a 574. Sophomore Alexander McAlear was close behind with an 1131 (569 smallbore, 562 air rifle). Also competing for the co-ed squad was Allison Auten with an 1125 (555 smallbore, 570 air rifle) and Leah Fenwrick-Wallace with an 1107 (540 smallbore, 567 air rifle).

Tommy Simrill, Maxwell Smalls and Krishawn Royal all competed for the first time this season. Smirill finished with an aggregate score of 1000 (456 smallbore, 544 air rifle), Smalls shot an 846 (394 smallbore, 452 air rifle) and Royal ended the weekend with a 791 (389 smallbore, 402 air rifle).

For the women's team, Lauren Pringle led the charge with a 1047 made up a 496 smallbore and a 551 in air rifle. Shay Littlejohn was second on the team with a 1024 (496 smallbore, 528 air rifle) while Tierra Price finished with a 967 (476 smallbore, 491 air rifle). Maia Farina competed for the first time this season and ended the match with a 792 (338 smallbore, 454 air rifle).

The Citadel will take a week off from competition and will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 21. The Bulldogs will travel to Dahlonega, Ga., to take on 20^th-ranked North Georgia in a Southern Conference match.
