CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel wrestling team dropped its dual to SIU-Edwardsville in McAlister Field House on Thursday.
The Bulldogs (2-9, 1-4 SoCon) fell in the 125-pound and 133-pound weight classes by major decisions to give the SIU-Edwardsville Cougars (4-10, 4-2) an 8-0 lead.
Douglas Gudenburr, a 141-lb. freshman, cut the Cougars' lead to 8-3 after earning a 6-4 decision over Trevor Feagans. Graduate student
Aaron Walker also earned a win for the Bulldogs with a 10-5 decision in the 157-lb. weight class over SIUE's Karsten Van Velsor.
The Cougars continued on to earn two pins and a technical fall in the 165-lb., 174-lb., and 184-lb. brackets until sophomore
Sawyer Root at 197-lbs. won with a close 3-2 decision over Jake Tindle. With the Cougars closing out the night with a win in the heavyweight class, the Bulldogs fell 31-9.
The Bulldogs will continue conference play on Sunday when they travel to Chattanooga, Tennessee, to face the Chattanooga Mocs at 2 p.m. Live stats will be available at CitadelSports.com.
