Cross Country Finishes Competition in Upstate Invitational

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Citadel men's cross country team placed seventh out of 17 in the Upstate Invitational while the women finished 13th out of 22.

How It Happened (Men)

The Citadel took seventh place overall in a field of 17 teams by a score of 168 with Bulldogs scoring in 10-30-36-44-46.
Graduate transfer Colin Martin was the top finisher for the Bulldogs, placing 10th overall with a final time of 26:27.6. Martin comes off of a first place finish at the Buccaneer Open.
Freshman Lane Johnson would take 34th place in the field, running a 28:02.1, his personal best as a Bulldog. Jeremy Shipley scored 37 points with a final time of 28:17.30 while Devin Heisler added an additional 44 points with a time of 28:44.40.

How It Happened (Women)

The Citadel took thirteenth place overall in a field of 17 teams by a score of 345 with Bulldogs scoring in 22-54-80-91-98..
Sophomore Amber Opp was the top finisher for the Bulldogs, placing 24th overall with a final time of 19:10.50, one minute shy of the field leader Phylissa Greeley of Appalachian State.
Casey Miller and Jordan Neeley would be the next pair to cross the line for the Citadel, running 20:31.90 and 21:37.70, respectively.

Coach Huddleston on the Meet

"The meet went well for both teams, we definitely showed some improvement from our first meet of the season. The freshman on the men's side got to run their first 8k, so they know what to expect and what they need to do going into our next meet, the Charleston Cross Country Classic. Colin Martin ran well for us and will continue to get stronger before the conference championship. The women's team also showed improvement, Amber ran well as did Casey Miller. We still have some work to do but as a staff, we will have the cadet athletes ready by end of the month."
