RESULTS
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The 22
nd-ranked Citadel mixed rifle team and the 28
th-ranked women's team closed out the road portion of the 2019-20 regular season Saturday afternoon.
The mixed rifle team defeated the 25
th-ranked Terriers of Wofford with an aggregate score of 4512. The Terriers ended their day with an aggregate score of 4475, while the Bulldog women finished up with a season-best 4228, surpassing their previous season best by 28 points.
Wofford's
Daniel Wesson claimed top honors in aggregate (1145), as well as both guns with a 570 in smallbore and a 575 in air rifle.
The Citadel swept the next three aggregate spots, including freshman
Cameron Bates in second (1141), junior
Max Brabston third (1139) and senior
Alexander McAlear in fourth (1127).
For The Citadel women, sophomore
Megan Waters led the way with a ninth-place effort in aggregate (1091), which was also the highest aggregate score of the season for the women's squad, while senior
Tierra Price ended her day with a 10
th-place 1054.
THREE-POSITION SMALLBORE
- In three-position smallbore, Brabston and Bates recorded similar 570s, but Bates was awarded second due to the number of centers he hit. The 570 is the third-highest smallbore score of the season for the Bulldogs, and marked a career-high in the gun for Bates.
- McAlear finished fourth in the gun with a 556.
- Waters notched a top-five position for the women's team with her career-best of 552.
- Emily Perkins finished ninth in smallbore for the mixed team with a 540, and Jack Wittman rounded out the Bulldogs' mixed team's scoring five in the discipline with a 10th-place 534.
- Freshman Demi Perez was second on the women's team with a 521, one off her personal record for the year, while Price ended her time in smallbore with a 516
- Victoria Krone recorded a 500 and Taylor Swiger notched a 490.
AIR RIFLE
- In air rifle, Bates once again was tied with one of his upperclassmen teammates, this time McAlear matched him with a 571. Bates took third over McAlear based off centers.
- Brabston ended his day with a fifth-place, 569 effort.
- Perkins bounced back to record a seventh-place 565.
- Brandon Oerman notched a top-10 spot with an eighth-place 565.
- On the women's side, Waters again led the charge with a 539, just edging out Price, who finished air rifle with a 538.
- Perez was third on the women's team with a 532, Krone finished fourth on the squad with a 530 and Swiger rounded out the women's scoring five with a 525.
COMING UP
The Bulldogs will be off next week before hosting 12
th-ranked NC State, No. 20 UAB, 24
th-ranked Georgia Southern and Wofford on Saturday, Feb. 22 and Sunday, Feb. 23 for an NCAA Qualifier match. The two-day match will serve as a last chance for individuals to qualify for the NCAA Rifle Championships.
